Used Car Ownership Transfer: Simple Steps You Need to Know

Transferring ownership is a crucial step when buying or selling a used car in Thailand. It ensures that the buyer becomes the legal owner and the sale is officially recognized.
The process involves specific documentation and must be completed at the Department of Land Transport (DLT) office where the vehicle is registered. Here's what you need to prepare!
- Vehicle Registration Book (Blue Book)
This document includes vehicle details and the current owner's information. It is essential for the ownership transfer process.
- National ID Cards of Both Buyer and Seller
Both parties must present their original Thai ID cards on the day of the transfer. Photocopies of both IDs are also required.
- Power of Attorney (if applicable)
If either the buyer or seller cannot attend the transfer in person, they must issue a signed Power of Attorney along with a copy of their ID card and the representative’s ID card.
- Proof of Tax Payment and Compulsory Insurance
The car must have valid tax payment records and active compulsory car insurance (Por Ror Bor) that hasn’t expired.
- Vehicle Inspection Certificate
In some cases, especially for older vehicles, a certified inspection from a licensed inspection center (Tor Ror Or) may be required to verify roadworthiness and safety standards.
