After unveiling the Land Cruiser “250” in 2024 — a model built around the concept of “Return to Origin” — Toyota has continued its off-road legacy with the all-new Land Cruiser “FJ”, officially revealed in Japan on October 21, 2025. The new “FJ” represents a modern take on the brand’s iconic boxy SUV, designed to accompany people across the globe with a more compact yet equally rugged build.

Designed for Everyone, Everywhere

According to Toyota’s Chief Engineer, the development of the Land Cruiser “FJ” was driven by the idea of making the Land Cruiser more accessible to more people worldwide. It’s not just a vehicle for adventure enthusiasts but also a practical companion for daily use.

Although its name recalls the beloved FJ Cruiser once popular in North America, the new Land Cruiser “FJ” is an entirely different creation — developed not for lifestyle appeal but for global functionality, providing durability and usability in every environment.

Exterior: Simple, Tough, and Functional

The Land Cruiser “FJ” retains the signature boxy form that defines the model line, combining strength with compact proportions. Toyota has shortened the overhangs and pushed the wheels toward the corners of the vehicle to improve approach and departure angles — a design that enhances stability and off-road performance.

Key exterior features include:

  • “cut-corner cube” design symbolizing strength and balance.
  • Rear-mounted spare tire to maximize ground clearance.
  • Side-hinged tailgate, inspired by the classic Land Cruiser FJ40.

Interior: Purposeful and Practical

Inside, the Land Cruiser “FJ” emphasizes functional simplicity. The horizontal dashboard layout helps the driver maintain clear visibility over uneven terrain, while mechanical switches ensure precise control even when driving off-road.

Additional highlights include:

  • Wide-opening side-hinged tailgate for easy cargo access.
  • Spacious storage area, made possible by the vehicle’s box-shaped design.
  • Optimized A-pillar and window lines for improved all-around visibility.

Performance: Compact Yet Capable

Built on Toyota’s proven IMV platform — shared with the Hilux and Fortuner — the Land Cruiser “FJ” has been re-engineered for agility. Its wheelbase is 270 mm shorter than the Land Cruiser “250,” giving it superior maneuverability in tight spaces while maintaining the toughness expected of a Land Cruiser.

Technical specifications:

  • 2.7-liter petrol engine (renowned for reliability and durability)
  • 6-speed Super ECT automatic transmission
  • Full-time AWD system
  • Maximum power: 163 hp
  • Peak torque: 246 Nm
  • Minimum turning radius: 5.5 meters

The new Land Cruiser “FJ” meets Toyota’s rigorous durability and off-road standards, combining the strength of a Land Cruiser with the maneuverability of a compact SUV — a balance aimed at both adventurers and everyday drivers.

Thailand Launch in Early 2026

Following its world premiere in Japan, Toyota plans to introduce the Land Cruiser “FJ” to the Thai market in early 2026, continuing the brand’s long-standing success in the off-road SUV segment across Southeast Asia.
