A tough weekend for Motorist Racing at Songkhla Grand Prix 2025

The 2025 Songkhla Grand Prix proved to be a challenging yet memorable race weekend for the Motorist Racing Department. Held from 17–19 October on the scenic streets of Songkhla, Thailand, the event marked the final round of the PT Maxnitron Racing Series and one of the largest motorsport gatherings in Southeast Asia.
Representing Motorist Thailand, racing driver Aiden Chong took on the demanding Honda One Make Race (HOMR) category, where all competitors drive identical Honda City Hatchback race cars powered by 1.0-litre turbo engines and 5-speed manual gearboxes — ensuring driver skill takes center stage.

This race weekend was particularly significant for Aiden, as it marked both his series debut and first time racing on the tight and technical Songkhla street circuit. Unfortunately, his practice sessions were hampered by technical problems — a boost leak in the second session and an engine failure in the third cut short his valuable track time.
With no time for an engine replacement before qualifying, Aiden was forced to start Race 1 from the back of the grid. To make matters worse, the car stalled on the dummy grid, resulting in a pit lane start — a major disadvantage given the narrow circuit. Nevertheless, Aiden demonstrated impressive pace, charging through the field to climb as high as seventh place before the race ended under a prolonged safety car period caused by a crash elsewhere on the track.

Thanks to his fastest lap in Race 1, Aiden earned a fifth-place grid slot for Race 2. However, his momentum was short-lived when a driveshaft failure occurred just after the start. Although the team swiftly replaced the part, Aiden rejoined the race three laps behind, effectively ending his hopes for a podium finish despite maintaining front-runner pace throughout.
Elsewhere in the paddock, fellow Team Supersonic Singapore drivers Shane Ang and Kenneth Ho delivered commendable performances, each finishing fourth overall in their respective classes (Siam GT and Siam Group A) despite their own mechanical challenges — including a crash for Kenneth in Race 1.
While the weekend was plagued by setbacks, Motorist Racing views the Songkhla Grand Prix as an invaluable learning experience. The team now sets its sights on the 2026 PT Maxnitron Racing Series season, aiming to return stronger and more competitive.
Stay tuned for more updates as Motorist Racing continues its journey on the Southeast Asian motorsport stage.
