The 2026 BYD Sealion 5 DM-i has leaked some of its specs ahead of the official debut. The updated compact crossover boasts a staggering 33.3% increase in pure electric range, paired with ultra-fast "Flash Charging" capabilities.

Updated specifications for both the EV and DM-i (PHEV) variants have surfaced ahead of their official debut in China on April 20, 2026.Both models will feature the new Blade Battery 2.0 and support BYD’s proprietary Flash Charging, capable of a 10–97% charge in just 9 minutes.

The Upgraded Battery Specs

The PHEV variant (DM-i) utilises high-performance batteries from FinDreams with two primary configurations:

  • The 26.6 kWh variant can deliver up to 220 km of pure electric range (CLTC).
  • The 34.275 kWh variant can deliver a record-breaking 305 km of pure electric range (CLTC).

To put this into perspective, the current top-spec Sealion 5 DM-i offers only 150 km per charge. This massive upgrade means many owners could theoretically drive for an entire week on electricity alone.

Furthermore, the 2026 model retains a frugal fuel consumption rate of approximately 21 km/L (when the battery is low).

Global Context vs Local Launch

While Thai enthusiasts have only just welcomed the Sealion 5 DM-i following its Bangkok International Motor Show 2026 debut (where it garnered 1,427 bookings), the Chinese market is already moving towards this significant "MY2026" refresh. The current Thai-spec model offers a 110 km range (NEDC) at an accessible price point below 800,000 THB, but this upcoming update signals where the brand is headed.

2026 Sealion 5 DM-i Key Highlights:

  • Dimensions: 4,620 x 1,860 x 1,630 mm (Wheelbase: 2,770 mm), comparable to the current Honda CR-V.
  • Powertrain: 1.5-litre engine (99 hp) paired with a high-torque 120 kW electric motor.
  • Advanced Chassis: Features the DiSus-C intelligent damping suspension system.
  • Equipped with DiPilot 300, utilising roof-mounted LiDAR sensors for superior autonomous driving capabilities.
