BYD Sealion 5 DM-i just got a battery upgrade, pushing EV range beyond 200km

The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i (known as the Song Pro DM-i in China) is set for a substantial battery upgrade, introducing "Flash Charging" and increasing its pure electric range by 33.3%.

The Upgraded Battery Specs

According to leaked data from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the upcoming Sealion 5 DM-i will feature a new battery pack manufactured by FinDreams, with the following specifications:

• Battery capacity of 34.275 kWh.
• Pack weight at 258 kg.
• Pure EV range (WLTC) to 200 km per charge.

To put this into perspective, the current top-tier Song Pro model offers only 150 km of range. Furthermore, the updated model is expected to maintain a fuel consumption rate of approximately 21 km/L, whilst supporting BYD’s Flash Charging technology, capable of juicing the battery from 10% to 97% in a mere 9 minutes.

The Thai Market vs. Global Updates

Although the Sealion 5 DM-i has only just debuted in Thailand at the Bangkok International Motor Show 2026, its Chinese counterpart has been in production since 2019. This means the model is naturally entering a major facelift cycle in its home market.

The current Thai-spec model offers a 110 km EV range (NEDC) and a combined range of over 1,200 km, with an attractive entry price below 800,000 THB. Despite the impending global update, the current version proved its popularity with 1,427 bookings during its local launch period.
