BYD Song L makes a bold entry by being a larger yet more affordable model than Tesla Model Y
Launched successfully, the BYD Song L seems to fiercely rival the Tesla Model Y, but is bigger and cheaper, with a highly competitive price.
The BYD Song L is an SUV with a coupe-style rear, utilising the same e-Platform 3.0 platform as the Seal, Dolphin, and Atto 3 models. The Song L stands out with its “Dragon Face” design that features long LED headlights, and a sporty front bumper. Additionally, there is a trapezoidal air intake, and a roof spoiler at the rear of the car which can be retracted and hidden. Lastly, it boasts sleek door handles which lie flush with the body until they are activated for access.
The vehicle body’s size measures 4,840 mm long, 1,950 mm wide and 1,560 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,930mm, making it larger than the Tesla Model Y.
Inside, the cabin comes equipped with a 15.6-inch infotainment screen that can be rotated. The driver’s side dashboard features a 10.25-inch LCD screen and an additional 50-inch AR-HUD screen. Moreover, there is also a DiPilot driving assistance system and over 30 other functions which can significantly enhance your driving experience by making your drive easier and very comfortable.
BYD Song L is available in five variants:
1. Exceed variant - 550 km
- LFP battery with a capacity of 71.8 kWh, range of 550 km (CLTC)
- Rear-wheel drive (RWD), with 204 horsepower
- Acceleration rate of 0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds
- Price is estimated to be 220,000 Yuan in China
2. Excellence variant - 550 km
- LFP battery with a capacity of 71.8 kWh, range of 550 km (CLTC)
- Rear-wheel drive (RWD), with 204 horsepower
- Acceleration rate of 0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds
- Price is estimated to be 240,000 Yuan in China
3. Exceed variant - 662 km
- LFP battery with a capacity of 87.04 kWh, range of 662 km (CLTC)
- Rear-wheel drive (RWD), with 313 horsepower
- Acceleration rate of 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds
- Price is estimated to be 240,000 Yuan in China
4. Excellence variant - 662 km
- LFP battery with a capacity of 87.04 kWh, range of 662 km (CLTC)
- Rear-wheel drive (RWD), with 313 horsepower
- Acceleration rate of 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds
- Price is estimated to be 260,000 Yuan in China
5. Excellence 4WD variant - 602 km
- LFP battery with a capacity of 71.8kWh, range of 602 km (CLTC)
- Four-wheel drive (4WD), with 517 horsepower
- Acceleration rate of 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds
The starting price of the BYD Song L is cheaper than the Tesla Model L by approximately 40,000 Yuan (around 200,000 Baht). It is also possible that the BYD Song L might become the most popular and best-selling electric SUV in China.
We have to wait and see whether the BYD Song L will be introduced to the Thailand market. The price is estimated to be around 1,090,000 - 1,387,000 Baht if the BYD Song L goes on sale in Thailand.
