Is using plain water sufficient for refilling the windshield washer tank of a car? Or do you need to mix something additional to ensure thorough cleaning of the windshield? Many people may have had these questions in mind. Let Motorist address these queries here!

In fact, we can use clean water alone to refill the windshield washer tank. However, tap water from unreliable or contaminated sources, with high mineral content or impurities, should be avoided. These impurities can potentially clog the windshield washer nozzles. It is recommended to use distilled or filtered water for refilling, as it is the best option.

Alternatively, if you want to add additives, it can be done, but they must be standard products specifically designed for cleaning glass. Using other unrelated products such as dishwashing liquid, hand soap, or shampoo may clog the pipes and nozzles, causing streaks on the windshield, damaging the rubber of the wiper blades, and making the wiper blades squeaky.

Not forgetting, it is advisable to regularly check the windshield washer fluid level. This ensures that there are no issues when it comes time to use it. Allowing the reservoir to run dry may also damage the windshield washer mechanism.
