Leapmotor has officially released the first images of the Lafa 5 Ultra, also known as the B05 Ultra, a high-performance version of the company’s compact electric hatchback. The model follows the debut of the standard B05 at the Munich Motor Show 2025 and marks Leapmotor’s bold move into the performance EV segment.

Designed for the Next Generation of EV Drivers

According to Cao Li, Senior Vice President of Leapmotor, the Lafa 5 Ultra is aimed squarely at younger drivers who value both style and performance. In fact, around 70% of pre-orders have come from customers under the age of 35, reflecting the growing appeal of Leapmotor among the new generation of EV buyers.

Cao confirmed that the standard Lafa 5 will go on sale in China by late 2025, while the Ultra version is scheduled for launch in the first half of 2026, with global rollouts expected afterward.

Sportier Design with Exclusive Aero Kit

While detailed specifications remain under wraps, the Lafa 5 Ultra distinguishes itself through several key exterior upgrades. The car features an aerodynamic body kit designed exclusively for this model, including a new front splitter, a larger rear spoiler, and gloss-black trim elements for a more aggressive look.

Although both the standard and Ultra models ride on 19-inch alloy wheels, the Ultra variant gains unique front and rear bumpers, a redesigned diffuser, and an enhanced spoiler to improve aerodynamic balance and high-speed stability.

Performance-Focused Interior with Premium Materials

Leapmotor has not yet revealed the cabin design, but Cao confirmed that the interior will feature Alcantara-like materials for a sportier, performance-oriented feel.

He added that the design team focused on functionality over form, prioritizing features that enhance driving comfort, ergonomics, and aerodynamics rather than adding purely decorative elements.

European Engineering by Stellantis – 50:50 Weight Distribution

Reports suggest that the Lafa 5 Ultra’s chassis was tuned by Stellantis engineers in Europe, with a balanced 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution to enhance cornering stability and driving precision.

Industry insiders also speculate that the Ultra variant may feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, though Leapmotor has yet to officially confirm this configuration.

Built on the LEAP 3.5 Platform – Rivals BYD Dolphin and MG4

Built upon the company’s LEAP 3.5 platform, the Lafa 5 Ultra is expected to be Leapmotor’s most dynamic and fun-to-drive compact EV to date. When it launches in 2026, it will compete directly with popular models such as the BYD Dolphin, Geely Geome Xingyuan, and MG4 in the fast-growing small EV segment in China.
