Cutting-Edge Battery Technology by SAIC and QingTao Energy

The MG4 Anxin Edition features a manganese-based lithium-ion battery utilizing Semi-Solid State technology, developed jointly by SAIC Motor and QingTao Energy. The 53.95 kWh battery pack delivers an impressive range of up to 530 kilometers on the CLTC test cycle.

The current MG4 lineup is priced between 68,800–102,800 yuan (approximately $9,500–$14,200 USD).

While the full production version hasn't been officially revealed, certification documents indicate that the MG4 Anxin Edition maintains the exterior styling of the current model, featuring:

  • Hatchback body with a wide, sporty stance

  • Headlights inspired by the Cyberster model

  • Illuminated MG logo

  • Full-width LED taillights with arrow-shaped daytime running lights

Dimensions

Upgraded Interior with Smart Technology

The cabin receives a comprehensive update, highlighted by:

  • MG–OPPO Intelligent Cockpit system powered by Snapdragon 8155 chip

  • 15.6-inch central display (upgraded from 12.3 inches)

  • Elimination of physical buttons for a cleaner interface

  • Steering column-mounted gear selector replacing the rotary shifter

  • 50W wireless charging pad integrated beneath the center console

Performance and Powertrain

The MG4 Anxin Edition features a single front-mounted motor with front-wheel drive (FWD) configuration, delivering:

  • Maximum power: 120 kW

  • Peak torque: 250 Nm

  • 0–50 km/h acceleration: Just 3 seconds

  • Curb weight: 1,500 kg (15 kg heavier than the LFP battery version)

What is Semi-Solid State Battery Technology?

Semi-Solid State batteries represent a hybrid approach combining solid and liquid electrolytes, with solid materials comprising over 90% of the total structure.

Key Advantages
  • Higher energy density compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries

  • Superior thermal stability for enhanced safety over liquid electrolyte batteries

  • Compatible with existing production lines reducing manufacturing costs

Chinese authorities are preparing new terminology standards, planning to rename "Semi-Solid State" batteries as "Solid-liquid Batteries" to clearly distinguish them from full Solid-State batteries still under development.

The MG4 continues to perform strongly in the market, with sales reaching 11,480 units in October. The Anxin Edition will be added to the lineup once mass production begins.
