Vision BMW ALPINA unveils luxury concept coupe, redefining power and craftsmanship within BMW Group

Vision BMW ALPINA has officially debuted, preparing to mark the dawn of a new era for the "ALPINA" brand under the stewardship of the BMW Group.

Officially launched at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2026, the Vision BMW ALPINA is the first concept car from the ALPINA brand under the BMW Group umbrella. It highlights the three core pillars of the brand's DNA: Speed, Comfort, and supreme Sophistication, aimed at bridging the ultra-luxury market gap between BMW and Rolls-Royce, with Mercedes-Maybach as its primary competitor.

Key Highlights:

  • Massive Coupe Body: A vehicle length of 5,200 mm, focusing on a low and wide stance, comfortably accommodating 4 adults.
  • V8 Powertrain: Delivering ALPINA’s signature exhaust note—deep at low revs and resonant at high revs.
  • "Speed Feature Line": Angled at 6 degrees, running parallel across both the exterior and interior.
  • 20-Spoke Alloy Wheels: The brand's signature since 1971, coming in 22 inches at the front and 23 inches at the rear.
  • "Comfort+" Mode: Delivers next-level smoothness, adhering to the brand's philosophy: "A comfortable driver drives faster."

Exterior Design

The Vision BMW ALPINA reinterprets the classic charm of the ALPINA B7 Coupé (the E24 model from the 1970s) into a modern classic guise:

  • Shark Nose + 3D Grille: A sloped shark-nose front design paired with a 3D BMW twin kidney grille, surrounded by warm-white lighting that conceals a backlit Deco-line pattern inside, which glows brighter when activated.
  • Speed Feature Line: A guiding visual line angled at 6 degrees, stretching from the corner of the front bumper along the body sides to the rear.
  • Deco-Lines Beneath Lacquer: The signature side stripes of Alpina since 1974 are elevated by painting them directly underneath the clear coat layer, rather than using traditional stickers.
  • Polished Details: Oval twin exhaust tips split on both sides, and the "ALPINA" lettering on the front skirt crafted from CNC-machined polished metal.

Elegant Cabin and Handcrafted Details

The cabin is designed with an emphasis on spacious utility and high-grade materials. The dashboard segment is divided by a 6-degree angled line (dark tones on top, light tones below):

  • Interior materials feature full-grain authentic leather sourced directly from the Alps, accented with contrasting blue and green stitching—the brand's signature colours.
  • Interior controls and metallic pieces utilise brushing and satin-polishing techniques identical to luxury watchmaking, while the driving control knobs are made of genuine crystal.
  • At the rear centre console, there is a storage compartment for bottles and ALPINA crystal glasses with an automated lifting mechanism. The glasses are engraved with 20 deco lines and a 6-degree bevelled edge, held securely by hidden magnets.
  • It features the full-width BMW Panoramic iDrive entertainment system across the dashboard, complete with a passenger-side screen and a HUD that shifts its colour palette and graphics into higher intensity when switching from Comfort+ to Speed mode. The digital background replicates the Alpine scenery viewed from Buchloe (the brand's birthplace).

Performance and Suspension

The car comes equipped with a digital suspension that retains the Comfort+ function, reflecting the philosophy of founder Burkard Bovensiepen from 1965: "In endurance racing, while competitors try to reduce vehicle weight, we add thick foam padding to the driver's seat. This is because we believe that the most comfortable driver becomes the fastest and most stable driver over long distances."

Brand Situation and Direction in 2026

The year 2026 marks an important milestone as ALPINA has been fully integrated as an Exclusive Brand under the BMW Group, targeting the high-end and ultra-high-net-worth individuals who desire luxury without attracting too much attention.

For Luxury Car Fans: Although this Vision BMW ALPINA is a one-off global concept car to announce the design direction, the brand has confirmed that next year (2027), customers will definitely experience the first production model under the new era of BMW ALPINA. It will be developed and inspired by its flagship older sibling, the BMW 7 Series, to lead the lineup!
