“Solar Tree” electric vehicle charging station powered by solar energy

Normally, we see electric vehicle (EV) charging stations shaped like a square. However, a startup company in Britain is developing EV charging stations in the shape of trees and powered by solar cells. Not only is it an environmentally friendly initiative, it also saves installation space. 

This solar tree is the work of Solar Botanic Trees, a subsidiary of Solar Botanic, an energy technology company based in Britain.

In fact, this concept of Solar Trees is not new. It has been an existing concept that is already seen in Singapore. It is, however, a large tree, about 25-50 metres high. Solar Botanic Trees also believes that this size is too large, and is more suitable for use in buildings than in ordinary homes. 

The usual EV charging stations with square shapes and lined up in different places not only give off the vibes of a parking lot, they also take up a lot of space. 

Solar Botanic Trees therefore came up with the splendid idea that it would be great if there was a charging station that saved space and looked aesthetic, blending in with the natural surroundings. So, the company decided to develop it into a smaller solar tree so that it could be used in households or limited spaces. 

The solar tree would have a power generation capacity of 5 kilowatts, and take about 7 to 10 hours to recharge a standard vehicle with a 50 kW battery. 

However, the solar tree is still currently under trial and is expected to cost between 18,000 to 25,000 euros, or about 670,000 to 930,000 baht. In the future, artificial intelligence (AI) might even be used to help manage the energy storage and management system within the tree itself for greater efficiency.
