October 17, 2025 – Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has announced its largest recall in company history, affecting more than 115,000 vehicles due to battery and component issues that could pose safety risks.
The recall covers two main models:
- BYD Tang Series (produced March 2015 – July 2017), totaling 44,535 units, identified with design defects in certain components that could cause system malfunctions.
- BYD Yuan Pro (EV) (produced February 2021 – August 2022), totaling 71,248 units, affected by battery installation issues during production that may compromise safety.
BYD has faced recalls previously, including:
- January 2025: 6,843 units of the Fangchengbao Bao 5 plug-in hybrid SUV due to fire risk.
- September 2024: nearly 97,000 units of the Dolphin and Yuan Plus (Atto 3) over steering control unit defects that could lead to fire hazards.
This massive recall could impact consumer confidence worldwide, especially as BYD expands into Europe, Southeast Asia, and key markets like Thailand.
BYD stated that it will promptly address the defects and provide necessary inspections and part replacements to ensure the safety and confidence of EV owners.
