Hyundai has officially unveiled the IONIQ 3, a fully electric 5-door compact hatchback designed to disrupt the European urban mobility sector.

Featuring a futuristic "Aero Hatch" silhouette, the IONIQ 3 blends advanced efficiency with upper-segment roominess and introduces the Pleos Connect infotainment system, based on Android Automotive OS, to the European market for the first time.

The Design

The IONIQ 3 is the first model to fully embody Hyundai’s "Art of Steel" design philosophy, resulting in a drag coefficient of just 0.263.

  • The iconic Pixel Lighting returns, with a hidden Morse code "H" (four dots) integrated into the lamps, a signature IONIQ "Easter egg."
  • Compact yet spacious, despite an overall length of 4,155 mm, its flat-floor E-GMP layout provides interior space comparable to vehicles in a higher segment.

Performance & Powertrain

Built on a tailored 400V E-GMP platform, the IONIQ 3 is optimised for everyday urban and motorway use. The front-mounted electric motor delivers 107.8 kW (147 PS) and 250 Nm of torque.

  • Standard Range: 42.2 kWh battery, providing a 344 km range (WLTP).
  • Long Range:61 kWh battery, delivering up to 496 km (WLTP).

The vehicle supports DC fast charging (10-80% in 29 minutes) and offers an optional 22 kW AC on-board charger for rapid destination charging.

Furnished Space Interior

Inside, Hyundai moves away from traditional car aesthetics towards a "home-like" environment. Inspired by 1970s Italian furniture, the cabin utilises bio-materials and woven fabrics, complemented by BOSE® Premium Sound and Relaxation Seats. A 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen (B&O) sound system is available as options.

Also, beyond the 322 litre boot, the IONIQ 3 features an ingenious 119-litre "Megabox" under-floor storage area, bringing total rear capacity to 441 litres.

Pleos Connect, a future of Hyundai's software

Debuting in Europe, the Pleos Connect system (powered by Android Automotive OS) offers a smartphone-like intuitive experience via a high-resolution 12.9-inch or 14.6-inch touchscreen. Key features include integrated EV route planning, V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) capabilities, and the latest SmartSense ADAS suite, including Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA2).

The IONIQ 3 is a strategic move to democratise premium EV tech for European families. For Thailand, the outlook is promising with Hyundai’s newly established local manufacturing plant, the IONIQ 3’s mass-market specs make it a prime candidate for a future Thai launch.
