mReview: 2026 Honda City e:HEV RS — facelifted, repriced, and feature-packed: The ideal hybrid for Thai drivers

Honda City e:HEV RS Review: Honda's most loaded entry-level top spec yet — still a standout hybrid to buy in 2026
What’s Great?
- Punchy hybrid powertrain with impressive low-end torque in a compact body.
- Exceptional real-world fuel economy with flexible daily usability.
- Ultra-smooth transitions between electric motor and petrol engine operation.
What’s Good?
- Top RS trim adds a 360-degree surround camera system (not the sharpest, but highly functional).
- Refreshed front-end styling adds a noticeably sharper, sportier edge.
- A car that deeply understands the everyday driving habits of Thai motorists.
What’s Not Great?
- Interior design feels slightly dated compared to modern EV cabins.
- Several cabin adjustments remain manual rather than electric.
Amidst fierce competition in Thailand's B-segment, the Honda City e:HEV remains a trusted benchmark for hybrid efficiency, practical versatility, and flexible daily driving—especially for those without convenient charging access.
City driving remains effortless, with Honda LaneWatch offering a wide, clear side view directly on the central screen without awkward cropping. While it lacks Blind Spot Information (BSI), long-distance cruising is reassuringly composed.
Steering weighting is delightfully balanced, and despite noticeable road noise at higher highway speeds, the e:HEV setup delivers remarkable fuel economy that continues to impress.
A refreshed front fascia gives the City a sharper, more refined look. Top-tier RS and SV trims gain full-width LED light bars, while the RS grade exclusively features a sporty honeycomb front grille.
Under the bonnet lies a 1,498 cc 4-cylinder Atkinson Cycle petrol engine paired with a dual-motor electric hybrid system, producing 109 PS and a healthy 253 Nm of torque, comfortably out-torquing several electric cars in its class.
Engine startup when generating charge for the 1.0 kWh battery is exceptionally quiet and refined. While hard acceleration requires a split-second pause for the engine to build revs and feed power back into the system, real-world efficiency easily achieves mid-20s km/L against Honda's claimed 27 km/L (NEDC).
During our 500 km return trip test, the City consumed roughly half a tank of petrol, meaning a full tank will comfortably carry you to virtually any destination in Thailand without a single fuel stop.
Dimensions stand at 4,589 mm long (RS), 1,748 mm wide, and 1,480 mm tall with a 2,589 mm wheelbase and 134 mm ground clearance—clearly engineered 70% around urban commuting requirements.
For 2026, parking the RS grade is made effortless thanks to the new 360-degree camera system. Combined with a compact body and clever interior packaging, it remains a top choice for buyers seeking a reliable hybrid sedan.
The top-spec RS trim features a sporty black interior with red contrast stitching, upgraded for 2026 with ambient lighting, a new 10-inch Advanced Touch central display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and a wireless phone charger.
Interior space remains a strong suit. Despite a shorter wheelbase compared to modern EV platforms, the City comfortably accommodates four adult passengers with impressive legroom.
Clear smoked LED tail-light clusters on RS and SV trims add a subtle yet stylish upgrade, illuminating red only when the brakes are applied (other trims retain red tail-light lenses).
A sleek, flat-design silver 'H' emblem over a black backing replaces the older raised badges, signaling Honda's new minimalist era.
The RS trim boasts an exclusive sports body kit, featuring gloss black door handles, shark fin antenna, rear ducktail spoiler, lower bumper accents, and sturdy 16-inch alloy wheels.
Boot capacity stands at an impressive 510 litres, providing ample cargo space while acting as a natural sound barrier against rear tyre noise.
Serving as the final facelift before the next-generation model, the City e:HEV remains a proven, trustworthy choice for Thai drivers transitioning into electrified mobility.
For 2026, Honda Thailand has adjusted pricing downwards and introduced a new entry e:HEV V trim across two body styles:
