By shifting the electric motor to power the front wheels, the MG URBAN offers engaging torque response and a distinctly different drive from the MG4. Featuring an airier, roomier body, it delivers an approachable and practical character for daily life.

Despite modest exterior dimensions, a generous wheelbase creates a surprisingly spacious, comfortable cabin for all occupants. Unlike popular rival SUVs in a similar price bracket that focus on taller rooflines, the URBAN's narrower, lower profile makes darting through congested daily traffic far easier.

Throttle calibration is spot on, delivering a quintessential front-wheel-drive sensation. Even with instantaneous electric torque on tap, power delivery is progressive and smooth rather than aggressive, making it friendly for drivers of all skill levels.

A fresh front design breaks away from the aggressive sportiness of the MG4, introducing softer curved lines, new LED headlights reminiscent of its larger S5 sibling, and an illuminated front logo exclusive to the Thai market.

The MG URBAN is driven by a front-mounted single electric motor available in two outputs (with a tiny difference): the entry trim gets 150 hp (110 kW), while mid-to-top Ultra trims get 160 hp (118 kW), both producing an identical 250 Nm of torque.

Another minor difference lies in battery capacity and DC fast-charging speeds. The entry Standard trim gets a 42.8 kWh battery providing up to 435 km range (NEDC) with 82 kW DC fast charging (10–80% in 28 minutes). Mid-to-top trims upgrade to a 53.9 kWh battery for up to 530 km range, supporting 88 kW DC charging (10–80% in 30 minutes).

Designed specifically for urban versatility, its classic hatchback body measures 4,280 mm long, 1,848 mm wide, and 1,570 mm tall, keeping its exterior footprint nice and compact.

Yet on the inside, it reveals an extraordinarily spacious cabin thanks to a class-defying 2,750 mm wheelbase—longer than several SUVs and matching C-segment proportions.

The cabin keeps choices simple with a single Grey-Black interior scheme, but compensates with a feature list so complete that most buyers will quickly overlook the lack of colour customisation.

Tech highlights include a massive 15.6-inch central touchscreen capable of playing YouTube and TikTok, alongside a 7-inch digital driver cluster. Top trims feature a Snapdragon 8155 processor, responsive touchscreen interface, onboard navigation, 360-degree surround cameras, and a built-in dashcam ready to go once you plug in a 32GB USB drive.

The single best functional highlight in the MG URBAN is physical buttons. It stands out among modern EVs by retaining plenty of tactile buttons, making shortcut settings and adjustments effortless without taking your eyes off the road.

Stealing the show is the intelligent automated parking assist (Ultra trim only), allowing beginners or anxious drivers to park seamlessly. It supports bay parking, parallel parking, nose-in or tail-in preferences, and can even pull the car out of tight spots automatically.

At the rear, a full-width LED light strip spans from side to side, integrated with Union Flag graphics to celebrate its British design DNA.

A power tailgate comes standard on mid and top trims, while the base trim uses a manual tailgate. At the back, dual cameras handle both the 360-degree surround view and the ADAS safety suite.

Cargo capacity is genuinely practical, offering a base 480-litre boot (split across two levels) that expands to 1,266 litres with the rear seats folded down, plus an extra 98-litre deep hidden tray beneath the partition!

Where it holds a clear edge over rival 700,000 THB EVs is rear passenger space. Rear occupants enjoy vast legroom and plush seating, complete with a rear centre armrest—a feature added specifically for the Thai market.

The MG URBAN emerges as a formidable contender under 750,000 THB, combining rapid charging, engaging drive dynamics, long range, and smart tech with MG's established brand presence in Thailand.

Author’s Note – Launching with an entry price of just 549,900 THB was staggering enough, but seeing the sheer level of equipment packed into the top Ultra trim is even more impressive. Automotive technology has come a long way, and the MG URBAN delivers a comprehensive package that comfortably caters to its target urban audience—from daily commuting to maximum convenience.
